The principals of GWH Build are Grahame Chevalley, Jonathan Craig and Hilton Grugeon. The company’s team has been assembled to provide end-to-end solutions for clients and includes a range of construction management professionals: architects, planning consultants, surveyors, engineers, project managers, contract administrators, site foremen, licensed general contractors and health, safety and environment (HSE) personnel.

Our in-house capabilities (in areas such as design and planning) are combined with our strong relationships with licensed general contractors and specialist consultants. This means we can maintain close control over the development process, allowing for the extraction of cost and time efficiency and for effective risk management.

Executive Team

  • Grahame Chevalley - Executive Director

    Grahame co-founded GWH Build in 1995 and remains actively involved overseeing the management of the business.

    Grahame has over 30 years of experience in the building and construction industry. Having held various positions in the construction industry including Site Supervisor, Project Manager, Construction Manager and Managing Director, Grahame brings a variety of construction industry expertise from both a contractors’ and owners’ perspective enabling him to provide unsurpassed service and deliver exceptional solutions to his clients.

    Grahame is a passionate supporter and contributor of his community. He is heavily involved in volunteering for the NSW Rural Fire Service and a number of other community organisations, and is committed to his companies being good corporate citizens.

  • Jonathan Craig - Managing Director

    Jonathan is a co-owner of GWH Build and has been Managing Director since 2003. Jonathan first joined GWH Build in 1997 and has 20 years of experience in property development and construction. He holds a Bachelor of Construction Management (Honours) from the University of Newcastle.

    Jonathan oversees all aspects of GWH Build’s activities which includes maintaining relationships with property end users; identifying, acquiring and developing property to meet end user specifications; managing procurement and construction activities; and financing of development projects (via both debt and equity).

    Jonathan has been responsible for all major projects completed by GWH Build. He is recently responsible for the development of Mercure Newcastle Airport. Other major projects Jonathan has completed are available under Projects.

  • Hilton Grugeon Am - Director

    Hilton co-founded GWH Build in 1995 and he remains actively involved in the activities of the company.

    Hilton has been involved in commercial and industrial developments in the Hunter region since 1975, and has extensive interests in the development of light industrial estates in the lower Hunter.

    Hilton has very extensive business interest including; ready mixed concrete, quarrying, hardware, concrete masonry & pipes, irrigation, steel fabricating, plant hire, residential building, motor dealerships & travel.

  • George Araujo - Construction Manager - Multi-Storey Projects

    George leads our collection of hand-picked top flight construction professionals in our Multi-Storey division and brings near 20 years of experience delivering landmarks in the Residential, Commercial and Hospitality construction sectors throughout the eastern seaboard of Australia.

    George’s projects include the award winning $400m Oracle Broadbeach on the Gold Coast, with 140,000m2 over two 40 & 50 storey residential towers, containing a total 505 apartments. The development was spread over an entire 1.2 hectare block and also included an up-market commercial, retail and dining podium precinct.

    As well as the $340m ANZ Tower, now known as Liberty Place which houses anchor tenants ANZ and Herbert Smith Freehills in Sydney’s CBD. It consists of 40,000m2 of NLA, a 6 star Greenstar, 45 storey premium grade office tower and the infamous $30m Legion House Heritage listed adaptive re-use building, with a world first complete off the grid, carbon neutral “island mode” on-site power generation system and the bespoke award winning integrated fit out of top tier builder Grocon’s own corporate headquarters.

    George’s multifarious range of on and off site roles and experiences means he has a firm grasp of all facets of design and construct delivery from innovative construction techniques, complex structures and intricate services, right through to the most detailed of high end finishes, at the drawing board to practical completion.

    George’s attuned understanding of client’s needs, strengths, relationships and established track record ensures his team’s projects, across all trades, disciplines and personalities are converted to successful, no fuss delivery for all our stakeholders.

  • Ian Rushforth - Construction Manager - Commercial & Industrial Projects

    Ian specialises in identifying client specific business needs and designing, constructing and delivering project solutions for our clients. Ian joined GWH Build in 2005 and has more than 20 years of experience in the design, construction and delivery of industrial and commercial buildings.

    More recently, Ian has completed his role as Project Manager on the Mercure Newcastle Airport (project value of $18m). Ian also recently completed a $7m expansion of a veterinary pharmaceutical facility at Rutherford for Jurox in August 2013. GWH Build was engaged to design and construct the expansion project, which involved the extension and upgrade of manufacturing, laboratory and administration facilities (including sterile/clean rooms) and associated fit out.

    Ian’s current role is Construction Manager – Commercial and Industrial Projects where he heads up a team specifically formed, all with many years of experience, to deliver GWH’s commercial and industrial buildings, as well as warehouses, distribution centres, service stations, fast food premises, office fitouts, self storage facilities child care facilities, townhouse developments to name but a few.

    Ian has delivered countless purpose built facilities to clients during his time with GWH Build and his proven track record in this field is second to none.

  • Michael Noonan - Development Manager

    Michael is Development Manager for GWH Build. Michael joined GWH Build in late 2014 and is responsible for the management of all property development activities of GWH Build.

    Michael was most recently Principal Planner – Development for Monteath & Powys, and prior to this he was Development Manager for Parsons Brinckerhoff Australia. Michael brings a strong understanding of planning and approval processes to the team and is supported by GWH Build’s team of dedicated planners.

    Michael has been involved in projects including Huntlee as Development Manager (Huntlee is a master planned residential development comprised of 7,500 residential lots and 160 hectares of commercial/industrial land located in the Hunter Valley) and Hunter Economic Zone as Senior Planning Manager (HEZ is a 900 hectare industrial development located in the Hunter Valley).

    Michael holds a Bachelor of Urban and Regional Planning from the University of New England and is a member of the Urban Development Institute of Australia, the Property Council of Australia, the Planning Institute of Australia and the Real Estate Institute of NSW.

  • Luke Barker - Commercial Manager

    Luke has over 15 years experience in the provision of expert strategic, analytical, financial and business advisory services to Boards of Directors, management and project teams on accounting, business planning, reporting, budgeting and financial management information system applications.

    Luke joined GWH Build in February 2015 as the Group’s Commercial Manager bringing with him a passion for the development, exploitation and administration of computerised financial systems and management reporting tools that better drive business accountability.

    Previous experience includes holding Chief Financial Officer, General Manager and Strategic Analyst positions in high growth businesses which have benefited from his broad accounting knowledge, corporate experience, results driven leadership and passionate financial management focus.

    Luke holds a Master of Business Administration from Deakin University and has a Bachelor of Commerce with a double Major in both Management Accounting and Finance from the University of Newcastle. Luke is also a Certified Practicing Accountant and Registered BAS Agent.


GWH Build has a long-standing strategic partnership with a number of companies in the Hunter Group, which was founded as a result of common ownership interests between GWH Build and a number of businesses in the Hunter Group.

The relationship is built on common equity interests between GWH Build’s owners and a number of Hunter Group businesses.
